Project: Interactive Film App</strong></p>
<p>Our first piece of work with <a href="http://www.crystalcg.co.uk/" title="Crystal CG">Crystal CG</a> turns the Samsung Galaxy Tablet into an interactive film gallery for <a href="http://www.gsk.com/" title="GSK website">GlaxoSmithKline</a>.</p>
<p>GSK will be providing state-of-the-art laboratory services for the 2012 Olympic Games and have commissioned Crystal CG to create a set of films that explain the high pressure world of athlete testing.</p>
<p>Designing the UX and Interface, we created a simple and intuitive app that quickly moves the user around the content.</p>
<p>And with the app pre-loaded onto the Galaxy Tablets, GSK will showcase their work to the public at their scientists in Sport exhibition this summer.</p>

<p>After a lot of very hard work we’re exhausted but proud to say that we’ve just finished this beautiful data visualisation piece for <a href="http://www.mindshareworld.com/" title="Mindshare">Mindshare</a>. <a href="http://mindreader.mindshareworld.com/" title="Mindreader">Mindreader</a> is Mindshare’s proprietary study looking at digital consumers from around the world. Its aim is to not only understand people’s media habits but to also understand their lives, attitudes and cultural differences.</p>
<p>With a survey that covers 5 Continents, 36 markets and 36,000 people, it’s a huge undertaking to make sense of so much information. We’ve spent a lot of time analysing the data, prototyping interfaces and generating ways to bring the questionnaire to life. Our ultimate solution gives users the ability to digest the rafts of data in nice, relevant, bite size chunks that they can filter by age and gender whilst comparing up to four regions with a side by side comparison.</p>
<p>Designed to be used as a desktop based site, occasionally as a presentation tool and also accessible on a tablet, we had a lot of platforms to cover. We managed to get the range that we needed and also support non-Flash devices due to our innovative use of JS and HTML, although we’ll be looking into an optimised version for ipad later in the year. </p>
<p>We created every aspect from start to finish through analysis, IA, UX, design, prototyping and eventually the entire build, including some pretty complex CMS and backend. Phew!</p>

<p>First it was the famous rapping farmers, now it’s a farming-inspired boy band called The Churned.</p>
<p>As part of <a href="http://www.bartleboglehegarty.com/">BBH</a>’s ongoing Yeo Valley activity we’re very pleased to say that we’ve been helping them to launch their latest project &#8211; <a href="http://www.facebook.com/YeoValley">Sing-a-long on Facebook</a>. </p>
<p>Designed to accompany their huge <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlHZO0RsmmY">TV Spot</a> and tap into the spirit of The X Factor, it’s the first Facebook karaoke competition of its kind.</p>
<p>Facebook users can sing along to the Yeo Valley ad music, have their performance analysed and get rated against the whole social media community. The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to feature in a 30 second version of the TV ad, which will appear as part of the live X Factor final on 11th December. </p>

<p>It’s time for part two of our <a href="http://www.pottermore.com/" title="Pottermore">Pottermore</a> launch campaign work. </p>
<p>After helping to launch the new home for the World’s most famous wizard &#8211; Pottermore, <a href="http://www.adamandevelondon.com/" title="Adam &#038; Eve">Adam &#038; Eve</a> asked us to help them with a new series of rich media executions to magically whisk fans to the site.</p>
<p>Building on the mystery of the original launch campaign, fans were encouraged to seek out magical quills across the internet. With millions of people trying to access Pottermore, each quill acted as a personal key that would grant you access to the most coveted site on the planet.  </p>
<p>With more 3D work from <a href="http://www.wearecapture.com/" title="Capture - Film and Animation company">Capture</a> we created four beautiful, interactive pieces culminating with a full page takeover on <a href="http://www.sony.com/">sony.com</a></p>

<p>We’ve been bursting with excitement about our latest work on the online launch campaign surrounding the future world of Harry Potter. We were approached by <a href="http://www.adamandevelondon.com/" title="Adam &amp; Eve">Adam &amp; Eve</a> to help bring their ideas to life around the announcement of the much mooted and top-secret online destination <a href="http://www.pottermore.com" title="Pottermore.com">Pottermore</a> (itself the work of <a href="http://www.think.eu/" title="Think - Strategic Digital Agency">Think</a>).</p>
<p>Watched concurrently by hundreds of thousands of fans during its first minute, the YouTube announcement revealed the start of what’s to come in the wizardry world. And now the secret is out, we can expose the journey behind the work.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.secretstreetview.com/" title="Secret Street View">Secret Street View</a> was the first part to go live. The letters that make up the (at the time secret) name POTTERMORE were hidden in Potter-related locations around the world. The coordinates required to find the letters were posted on various Harry Potter fan sites at intervals throughout the 15th and 16th June and the challenge was to piece them together.</p>
<p>Once the name was out, a custom <a href="http://www.youtube.com/jkrowlingannounces" title="J.K. Rowling's Announcement on YouTube">YouTube channel</a> was launched displaying a countdown to the announcement by J.K.Rowling. And to drive visitors to the channel we created a range of rich media advertising placed on fan sites, web portals and partner sites.</p>
<p>As the announcement grew closer, an increasing number of owls (created and animated in partnership with our friends at <a href="http://www.wearecapture.com/" title="Capture">Capture</a>) continued to gather on the page, until all was revealed at midday on the 23rd June when the countdown reached zero and J.K. Rowling&#8217;s video announcement appeared on a transformed version the channel. We hope Hedwig would be proud.</p>

<p>Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Work Club and Pirata have designed and developed the new McLaren Mercedes site, after the success of last year’s ‘The Race 1.0b’.  With the aim of bringing users closer to the action than ever before, the new site has ‘time-led’ animated race navigation, an enhanced live telemetry feed, and live Facebook chat embedded into the race web-app to bring fans together to discuss every turn as it happens.</p>
<p>When McLaren cars are out on the track, live commentary, and chat between the drivers and the pit-wall are combined with contextual data direct from the track. All of this is in real-time, to make sure users know exactly what’s going on at the most exciting stages of the race. We know how you feel Hamilton. No really, we do.</p>

<p>Our next piece of work for <a href="http://www.ogilvy.co.uk/" title="Ogilvy">Ogilvy</a>’s <a href="http://www.mytoblerone.co.uk/" title="My Toblerone">My Toblerone</a> campaign is the main destination website. </p>
<p>Designed to complement their social media activity, the destination we have created will become a new meeting place for users to share their love for the tasty, triangular treat. </p>
<p>Full of charm and playfulness and like our earlier <a href="http://piratalondon.com/2011/03/my-toblerone-pt-i/" title="Pirata - My Toblerone Pt. I">video player</a>, we continue the theme of creating everything from the bar itself; buttons, levers, tabs, panels&#8230; this time though, we include the chocolate itself because every piece of content uploaded by a fan becomes another chunk of our ever growing gallery. </p>
<p>Ogilvy will use the site to set challenges and fans will be rewarded with prizes and glory as the best pieces of content are showcased throughout the year.</p>

Project: Push Snowboarding</strong></p>
<p>As part of our work with <a href="http://www.hypernaked.com/" title="Hyper">Hyper</a> on the <a href="http://piratalondon.com/2011/02/nokia-push-snowboarding/" title="Pirata - Nokia Push Snowboarding">Nokia Push</a> project, we were asked to create a data visualisation piece for the Burton US Open. Projected onto all four walls of the Nokia tent at the event, we wanted to show something that captured the pace and energy of snowboarding but also the intricate calculations that every rider has to make in order to get to the bottom of the run in one piece. </p>
<p>Using a blend of motion tracking, data parsing and particle generation, we created these beautiful light trails which react to every single move &#8211; changing shape, easing through colours, and heating up as the rider gets faster and faster. </p>

<p>We&#8217;re proud to say that we&#8217;ve just created Audi UK&#8217;s first iPad ad for our friends at <a href="http://www.bartleboglehegarty.com/" title="Bartle Bogle Hegarty">BBH</a>. The ad was part of a campaign to launch the new Audi A1 and was built in conjunction with <a href="http://www.wired.co.uk/" title="Wired magazine">Wired</a> magazine for their acclaimed iPad App. Working with 3D specialists <a href="http://www.realtime-technology.com/" title="Realtime Technology AG">RTT</a>, we created bespoke car sequences and full interactivity with video.</p>
<p>As part of this campaign we also created bespoke rich media placements and page takeovers for Telegraph, Topgear, MSN and WhatCar? </p>

<p>Push Snowboarding is an open snowboarding innovations platform that makes real-time rider analysis a reality. An app running on the Nokia N8 handset connects to an array of Bluetooth sensors placed on the board and rider, and records five key measurements: speed, orientation, pressure, heart rate and <em>rush</em>.</p>
<p>Live in time for the Burton European Open, we designed and developed a destination site in collaboration with <a href="http://54321hyper.com/" title="Hyper">Hyper</a> for snowboarders and hackers alike. The site delivers the latest news, videos and images straight from the slopes, as well as providing developers with the source code and data to build new tools to extend the platform.</p>
<p>The project, our first piece of work for Hyper, is far from over, with some interesting data visualisation work in the pipeline.</p>

<p>We have been working behind the scenes for a while now with Social Mobile company INQ. We’re proud to reveal our first new piece of work for them – a product launch mini-site for their forthcoming handset: the INQ Cloud Touch, an Android-based handset which in their own words is &#8216;alive with Facebook&#8217;.</p>
<p>We’ve been lucky enough to play around with a prototype and are very excited about its release. This site is only a hint of what’s to come; a full new website is in development so watch this space.</p>

<p>Stuart arrives from the good ship Dare and stands side by side with founders Eduardo and David. He joins as Creative Director bringing with him well-honed swashbuckling skills and a vast bounty of rare hi-tops. So fierce was his desire to sail, upon boarding he declared &#8216;Pour the rum and show me that horizon&#8217;. We duly obliged.</p>
<p>Lee heads straight to The Bridge as our first Managing Director after sailing back across the Atlantic from his adventures in New York with Dare. His penchant for tailored clothing means the eye-patch has gone straight into his daily clothing rotation.</p>

<p>2010; the year of the app indeed. We’re besotted with technology so when CHI approached Pirata to help Samsung promote the world’s first TV with an app store built in, we were all ears.</p>
<p>The result, an interactive experience which invites people to share their aspirations, opinions and questions relating to the Samsung Smart TV, as well as provide an engaging and informative guide to Samsung’s Apps (what they are, how they work and how they’re delivering the future of TV), it is a place where conversation about the Smart TV takes place.</p>
<p>Information is aggregated and curated from various platforms such as Twitter, Forums and Blogs and allows users to post their own ideas, comment, vote or just read through the content. All of these views, opinions and information are presented in an interactive, flash driven environment. Don’t worry, we had a little moderation on there.</p>

<p>Robin Huser is back! Not only put on their own panto but share it with friends and family and raise money for charity. And so Panto Karaoke was born.</p>
<p>The result is a webcam extravaganza where you can take to the boards and be the hero (or villain) from one of your favourite pantos. It makes the webcam do the hard work and fit you up with the perfect panto headgear. And we’re not just talking hats.</p>
<p>Save the masterpiece, send it to your friends and hopefully raise a bit for charity in the process. Oh and check our Tina O’Brien’s from Coronation Street. It’s a gem.</p>

<p>We were delighted when Fallon asked us to be involved in helping launch Cadburys biggest ever campaign to celebrate the run up to the 2012 London Olympics.</p>
<p>The campaign’s aim is to reignite the spirit of play through a series of playground favourites such as thumb wars, sleeping bag racing and even kiss chase, creating the biggest series of games ever. Encouraging participation is key to the campaign, so any game counts!</p>
<p>We worked closely with Fallon closely over 8 months to help them shape the digital creative ideas, providing design direction for the campaign site and an online game integrated with the balloon themed TV spot.</p>

<p>We’re thrilled to have landed a much coveted Gold Pencil at the annual One Show in New York! Our captain Eduardo set sail last week and came back with a shiny trophy for the Pirata cabinet, by taking the top prize in the Corporate Websites category for the Vodafone McLaren team’s <a href="http://mclaren.com/home">2010 website</a>. The One Show is an incredibly prestigious award to get in the industry and to have a gold pencil nestled in our treasure chest is the greatest acclamation a set of scurvy sea dogs could ask for.</p>
<p>While we were there McLaren also scooped a merit for Other Interactive Media, as did <a href="http://www.putonapanto.com" title="Robinsons Put on a Panto">Put on a Panto</a> for the Consumer Websites category. Panto’s also been doing the rounds being a finalist in the Revolution awards and an Honoree at the Webby’s so all round a fairly impressive haul!</p>
